CEDAR RAPIDS — Jerry Shields of Murray was inducted into the Iowa Girls Coaches Association Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame Saturday at the IGCA Honors Banquet.
Joining Shields as 2016 inductees were Frank Howell of Audubon and Cedar Rapids Washington, O.E. Lester of Oakland, Mark McCright of Riceville, Gene Rasmussen of IKM-Manning and Jerry Ver Meer of Western Christian and Pella Christian.
Shields was also named Iowa’s Middle School Athletic Director of the Year this year. He also serves as head volleyball coach at Murray.
Jim Smith, longtime Osceola Clarke coach and currently girls basketball assistant coach at Interstate 35 for his son, Jamie, was named Assistant Coach of the Year. Glenwood Athletic Director Jeff Bissen was named Administrator of the Year.
