Biography ~ Raymond E. "Ray" Zinser
Graceland University, Lamoni, Iowa

Raymond D. Zinser was born on July 24, 1922. He graduated from Graceland in 1942. During World War II, Ray was a naval aviator. In 1947, Ray joined Graceland's faculty to teach sociology. The took a leave of absence for a year and a half to serve as Lieutenant-Commander in the Office of Naval Intelligence during the Korean War.
While a member of Graceland's faculty, Ray completed his Ph.D. in social psychology from the University of Chicago and initiated an additional career as a public speaker throughout the U.S., Europe, and Asia.

Students considered Dr. Zinser to be a dynamic, charismatic speaker who taught interesting classes. He was also known for taking his conservative interpretations of RLDS ideas and translating them into social theories.

Dr. Zinser was among the four-member faculty team who taught Graceland's first senior-leve courses after the four-year religion major began in the fall of 1956.

After leaving Graceland in December of 1983, Ray worked as a marketing an management consultant in the Washington, D.C. area.

Ray died on February 10, 1997, in Manassas, Virginia. He was interred at Quantico National Cemetery, Quantica, Viriginia.
