Biography ~ Carlisle R. "Clyde" Youngs
Graceland University, Lamoni, Iowa

Carlisle R. "Clyde" Youngs was born in McGregor, Michigan, on November 25, 1919.

Clyde Youngs graduated from Graceland in 1941, then earned his B.A. degree in education, economics and solciology at Michigan State University in 1949. After obtaining his M.S.W. from Washington University (1951) in St. Louis, Missouri, Clyde joined Graceland's faculty as professor of psychology and sociology in 1954.

One of Clyde's longest-lasting contributions to the college was his co-development with Tom Freeman of Graceland's first counseling service in the fall of 1961. At the time, Clyde devoted two-thirds of his schedule toward providing personal counseling to students.

Due to Parkinson's, Clyde was foreced to take an early retirement in 1970. He and his wife, Edith, built the Chief Lamoni Motel in April of 1971.

Clyde died on December 2, 1991, Lamoni, Iowa, and was interred at Rose Hill Cemetery, Lamoni.
