Biography ~ Christiana (Stedman) Salyards
Graceland University, Lamoni, IowaChristiana (Stedman) Salyards was born in Rochelle, Illinois, on March 30, 1861. She was baptized into the RLDS Church on October 27, 1884. She received her higher education at the Illinois State Teachers College.
Christiana moved to Lamoni, Iowa in 1892 where she wrote Sunday School quarterlies for Herald House for the next 35 years. She taught Bible Study, religious courses and pedagogy at Graceland from 1909 until 1917.
Christiana married Richard Savery Salyards* in June of 1895. They moved to Independence, Missouri in 1924.
Christiana authored the following books:
The Enduring Word: The Gospel in All Ages, Herald House (1942).
Men Nearest the Master: Peter, James and John, Herald House (1937).

* Richard S. Salyards was born on June 16, 1857, Steubenville, Ohio, the son of Joseph Richard and Mary Elizabeth (Kew) Salyards. Richard married first to Zaide Viola Smith in 1883. Zadie was born in Nauvoo, Illinois, in 1963, the daughter of Joseph and Emmeline (Griswold) Smith, and died in 1891, interment made at Rose Hill Cemetery, Lamoni, Iowa. Richard served as mayor of Lamoni from 1889 to 1890. It has been said that Richard "throughout his long life, was an able defender of the faith." Richard died on November 27, 1944, Independence, Missouri. He was interred at Mound Grove Cemetery, Independence, Missouri. His epitaph reads, "I Have Kept The Faith."
Christiana died on April 16, 1951, Independence, Missouri. She was interred beside her husband, Richard. Christiana's epitaph reads, "I Have Finished My Course."
