Biography ~ Robert LaVern "Bob" Johnson
Graceland University, Lamoni, Iowa

Robert LaVern "Bob" Johnson was born in Marshall, Missouri, on July 1, 1926.

After serving in World War II, during which he received a Purple Heart, Bob obtained his A.A. at Kansas City Junior College in 1948, and his B.S. (1958) and MS. (1960) in elementary education from Central Missouri State University.

Bob began his education a career as a fifth grade teacher for two years at Warrensburg and Fort Osage, Missouri. He then served as th elementary school principal at Fort Osage during the 1960-61 school year, then assumed the position of principal at Blue Springs, Missouri from 1961 to 1963.

Bob joined Graceland's elementary education faculty in 1965. He completed his Ph.D. in 1973 from the University of Oregon, and served as Graceland's director of student teaching for a few years beginning in 1979.

Bob retired in 1991 with an emeritus status.

Deciding to maintain his presence on campus after retiring, Bob served as a volunteer in the Frederick Madison Smith Library.
