Biography ~ Ned Leroy Jacobson
Graceland University, Lamoni, IowaNed Leroy Jacobson was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on June 7, 1910.
Ned graduated from Graceland in 1932 and returned during the 1933-34 school year as a mathematics assistant. He obtained his B.S. degree in education in 1935 from the University of Oregon, and completed his M.S. degree in math in 1946 from the University of Iowa.
Ned first joined the math and pre-engineering faculty at Graceland in February of 1941, and left in June of 1942. He returned to his position at Graceland in June of 1946, continuing his heavy teaching schedule through the end of the 1975 spring semester when he retired as professor emeritus.
Students enjoyed contact with Ned off campus as he operated the Bridgestone wheel goods store in Lamoni from 1965 to 1972. The store serviced motorcycles and roller skates. From 1972 to 1975, Ned also sold and maintained bicycles.
Ned eventually moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Ned was interred at Rose Hill Cemetery, Lamoni, Iowa, sharing a gravestone with Jewell Jacobson (1916-1970).
