BIOGRAPHY - DR. CHARLES MILNE "CHUCK" EMSLIE
Graceland University, Lamoni, IowaCharles Milne "Chuck" Emslie was born on December 19, 1919, in Seattle Washington, the son of William Milne and Irene Florence (Reed) Emslie.
Dr. Emslie attended Graceland during 1940-41, then interrupted his education to serve during World War II in the U.S. Navy. He completed his B.S. degree in electrical engineering at Iowa State College [present-day Iowa State University at Ames] in 1947, and his M.S. degree in electrical engineering at Iowa State University [at Iowa City] in 1960.

Counselor Charles "Chuck" Emslie, 1955
Serving as one of the counselors to our district president is Elder Charles (Chuck) Emslie of Ritzville, Washington. Brother Emslie is a native of Washington, having been born in Seattle on December 19, 1919. Most of his youth was spent here, where he was baptized at the age of eight, and was graduated from Ballard High School in 1937. After attending Graceland College in 1940-41, he returned to Seattle and attended the University of Washington. He was graduated from Iowa State College in 1948.
In 1944, he married Heiress Kelley, and to them, three children have been born: Nancy eight, Stephen almost five, and Richard ten months.
Brother Emslie was ordained to the office of priest in 1950, and elder in 1952. At present, he serves as solicitor, teacher and counselor at the Moses Lake Mission. He has resided in Spokane District since 1949, and has been in Ritzville since 1951, where he is employed by REA [Rural Electrification Administration] as field engineer.

Dr. Emslie joined Graceland's faculty in 1960 to teach physics and mathematics. In 1971, he completed his Ph.D. in science education from the University of Michigan.
Dr. Emslie gained a reputation for his enthusiasm and unique sense of humor, and was known to frequently chuckle during his lectures. He was also part of a quartet of faculty singers called "The Unpredictables" with Ray Adams, Gerald Hampton and Dennis Steele.
Dr. Emslie was an elder in the RLDS Church. He retired from Graceland as professor emeritus in 1982, but continued teaching part-time until retiring to Tucson, Arizona, in 1985.
NOTE: Dr. Emslie married Heiress Virginia Kelley in 1944. Mrs. Emslie was born on June 21, 1921 at Fort Madison, Iowa, the daughter of Alvin Allison and Gertrude Cynthia (Herrick) Kelley, and died May 1, 1991. Dr. Emslie passed away on August 16, 1990 at Tucson, Arizona. Dr. and Mrs. Emslie were interred at Evergreen Memorial Park, Tucson, Arizona.
