BIOGRAPHY of PETER T. CHOSOKABE (CHOSOS)
Graceland University, Lamoni, Iowa

Peter T. Chosokabe was born in Japan (year known) and was Graceland's first student from Japan. He used the Americanized name "Peter Chosos" when he enrolled in the two-year Preparatory Department beginning in the 1910-11 school year.

Peter's most significant contribution to Graceland was in submitting the name "Acacia" for the college yearbook that debuted in 1912. One of Peter's roommates was Charles Allen, who would later become the father-in-law of furture Graceland President Edmund J. Gleazer, Jr.

Peter returned to Japan and married shortly after leaving Graceland. He worked in the city of New York as an American representative for a large Japanese firm, then eventually returned to Japan. During the 1940's, word came to the college that the ravages of World War II had left Peter with little money, so the Graceland community sent him shipments of requested medicines.

Peter worked as a night watchman at a lumberyard during his later years. He suffered from poor health due to digestive problems incurred during World War II.

Peter died in Japan on November 16, 1955.
