BIOGRAPHY of GERALD LYNN "GERRY" BOLINGBROKE
Graceland University, Lamoni, Decatur County, IowaGerald Lynn "Gerry" Bolingbroke was born in Pocatello, Idahon on May 29, 1941 [the son of Ephraim Thomas and Zella Marie (Daniels) Bolingbroke]. He graduated as valedictorian of his high school class in American Falls, Idaho, and in 1963 graduated with honors in completing his B.S. in physics from Idaho State in 1965 and his Ph.D. in cosmic ray physics from the University of Utah in 1971.
Dr. Bolingbroke joined Graceland's science faculty in 1970 to teach physics, and eventually researched and developed the college's omputer engineering major that was introduced in 1979. Dr. Bolingbroke taught physics, astronomy, physical science and computer engineering for 35 years at Graceland. The professor of physics was also instrumental in expanding Graceland's science programs with other institutions during 1990's.
He visited China Junior College in Taipei, Taiwan in 1991 and developed a plan for students from that school to complete their four-year degrees in computer science or computer engineering at Graceland. He also developed curriculum guides for Graceland engineering majors to complete their degree at the University of Iowa or the University of Missouri-Rolla.
Bolingbroke has been an active leader in his RLDS congregation and in 1987 received the Alumni Award for Excellence in Teaching.
NOTE: Dr. Bolingbroke married Patricia Ann "Pat" Klamm in 1966 at Prairie Village, Kansas. He enjoyed astronomy, his computer, reading and doing research on his own. He enjoyed yard work and traveling with Pat. Dr. Bolingbroke was a member and an elder of the Church of Jesus Christ Restoration Branch in Mt. Ayr, Iowa. His family remembers him as a "very humble man."
Dr. Bolingbroke died on December 22, 2007, Lamoni, Iowa. Interment was made in Independence, Missouri.
