Elsie (Foland) Boyd

Elsie Foland, the daughter of William Henry "Bill" and Rachel (Ramsey) Foland, was born in Richland Township, Decatur County, Iowa, on June 23, 1873. She attended the Brick School while her future husband, Frederick Allen "Fred" Boyd attended the Foland School, both located in Richland Township of Decatur County, Iowa. Elsie taught at the Foland School for the Spring terms of 1892 and 1893, and the Spring and Fall terms of 1896.

Elsie moved to Kansas to pursue her teaching career. While there she married Fred Boyd on March 3, 1901. They established a farmstead near Natoma, Kansas, where their children were born and raised. Their children were Henry "William", Ruby V., Russell C., LaVena "Vena" R., Emmett C., and Katherine who died in infancy. Elsie and Fred moved back Richland Township, Decatur County, Iowa in 1938. In 1943, they moved to Alton, Kansas.

Fred, the son of Henry and Louisa Luvena Boyd, was born in 1877 and died in 1953. Elsie died on February 7, 1961 after breaking her hip. Elsie and Fred were interred at IXL Cemetery, Natoma, Kansas.
