Newton Cloud "Nute" Piercy

Newton Cloud "Nute" Piercy was born on April 17, 1845, the tenth child of Nathan and Elizabeth (Scott) Piercy. The Piercy family lived in Morgan County, Illinois, and later came to Decatur County, Iowa.

Nute taught for several terms at the Foland School.

Nute and Phoebe Jane (Daniels) Coon were married on August 5, 1874. Phoebe was the widow of John Josiah Coon.

Nute died on April 29, 1901 and was interred at Wheelis Cemetery, Richland Township, Decatur County, Iowa. If there was a gravestone at his burial site, it has not survived.
