Catherine "Kate" (Detrick) O'Neil
Catherine "Kate" Detrick was the daughter of Andrew Joseph "John" and Susannah M. "Susan" (Harrington) Detrick. She was born March 5, 1857 in Boonesboro (present-day Boone), Iowa. The family moved to Kansas but shortly returned to Iowa, settling in Leon where John accepted a position as a printer for the Pioneer Newspaper. Kate was among the first pupils to attend the normal school at Garden Grove in 1881. She taught the spring terms of 1878 and 1880 at the Foland School No. 7 of Richland Township.
Kate and Christopher Columbus O' Neil (1853 - 1968) were married on June 2, 1883 and became the parents of six children. The family moved west, residing in Grand Junction, Colorado; New Plymouth, Idaho; Harmony, Oregon.
Kate died at the age of 80 years on October 29, 1935 and was interred at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Glendale, California.
