BIOGRAPHY ~ CLINTON E. & ELVERA V. MULLEN

Clinton E. Mullen, Born 1912.

"I was born five miles northwest of Decatur City, Decatur County, Iowa. My parents were Charley E. Mullen and Chloe (Harger) Mullen; two brothers, Theodore and Ralph; two sisters, Jessie and Marjorie, all deceased.

"I married Elvera V. Johnson February 19, 1930, moved from north of Leon in 1931 to Union County; moved south of Hopeville in Clarke County on the Johnson farm in 1933. Conrad was born July 17, 1934; that was all I raised that year as that was the dry year. Had to give up farming that year. Worked out for seven years. Marvel was born February 23, 1939, and Melvin was born November 29, 1940.

"The spring of 1941 I started 2 3/4 mile south of Hopeville on the E.B. Johnson place, lived there three years, then moved 4 miles east of Weldon, was there one year, then I bought the old Nick German place 1/2 mile south, 1 mile east and mile south of Hopeville and moved there the spring of 1945. I lived there until 1977.

"Elvera passed away November 9, 1968. Then on the 9th of July, 1970 I married Pauline Lewis of Des Moines, Iowa. I sold the farm in 1977 and moved to Missouri near Rockaway Beach September 18, 1977."

NOTE: Elvera (Johnson) Mullen, the daughter of Elijah Benjamin "Lidge" and Nettie Anne (Strubhar) Johnson, was born in 1909. She taught school for years at Grand River. She published a short book "History of Hopeville, Iowa: 1846-1965." Clinton E. "Clint" Mullen was born in 1912 and died in 1982. They were interred at Hopeville Cemetery, Hopeville, Iowa, beside their infant children, Merilee Ann (1936 - 1936) and Forrest Eugene (1943 - 1943).
