Biography ~ Robert McBroom

(Lewis Publishing Company (1887)), p. 522:

R. M. McBROOM, farmer and stock-raiser, lives on section 8, Garden Grove Township, where he has 320 acres of land. He was born in Hocking County, Ohio, April 4, 1824. His parents were Robert and Nancy (Cantwell) McBroom, natives of Pennsylvania. Their ancestors were Irish, German and Scotch. They moved to Ohio in 1798, and lived sixty-five years on one farm. Mr. McBroom was reared on a farm, and came to Decatur County in January, 1852, to Susan Winters, daughter of Rev. Daniel and Rebecca (Lambert) Winters, natives of Virginia. Mr. Winters was a pioneer minister of this county, having settled here in 1849. He is now living in Wayne County, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. McBroom have had eleven children, the living are - J.G.; Clara D., wife of John Pryor, has one child, Edith; Carl C.; Lucy G.; Edna; Robert C.; Nettie and Myrtle. Mr. McBroom worked out for $7 a month to get money with which to purchase his land. He is a self-made man, and a respected citizen, esteemed by all who know him. His father died in 1881, and his mother in 1880.

NOTE: Robert M. McBroom died on July 26, 1915. Susannah "Susan" (Winters) McBroom was born November 7, 1834, Lawrence Co. OH, and died on June 20, 1900. They were interred at Metier Cemetery, Weldon IA.

Rev. Daniel Winters was born in Virginia in 1805, and died July 11, 1886. Rebecca (Lambert) Winters was born in Virginia on May 25, 1803, and died April 29, 1872. They were intered at Winters Cemetery, Garden Grove IA.
