F. A. ROBEY, farmer, section 2, Long Creek Township, was born in Pike County, Ohio, March 25, 1842. His parents were THOMAS and MARY J. (BURNER) ROBEY, the former a native of Virginia and of German and Welsh decent, the latter a native of Ohio and of German ancestry. They came to Iowa in 1850, settling in Ottumwa, Wapello County, where they lived until the death of the father, which occurred in 1875. The mother resides in Dallas County. Mr. ROBEY came to Decatur County in 1863, and lived here until 1872; then went to Dakota, where he remained five years, during which time he received the benefit of a homestead of 160 acres of land. He then returned to Decatur County. He was married in Clark County October 18, 1866, to MARY E. SHERRONE, born in Guernsey County, Ohio, July 23, 1842, daughter of STRUBLE and RUTH (LUKENS) SHERRONE, who were among the first settlers of Clark County, where they still reside. Mr. ROBEY’s advantages for education were rather limited, but he obtained sufficient knowledge to enable him to teach school, having attended the seminary at Indianola three months. He taught twenty-seven terms. He has held the office of assessor and other minor township offices. He is a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and himself and wife are members of the Methodist Episcopal church. He commenced life poor, but with the assistance of his amiable wife, has acquired a nice property.
