JOSEPH HOLLINGSHEAD, an energetic and thrifty farmer of Franklin Township, is a native of Jackson, now Vinton County, Ohio, born January 24, 1830, a son of JOSEPH and AMELIA (WILSON) HOLLINGSHEAD. His father died before the birth of our subject, and he was reared by a widowed mother, who is now living in Nebraska, aged seventy-six years. He was educated in his native county, his early life being passed on a farm. He was married June 2, 1853, to ---------- and for a time lived on a farm in Ohio, and in 1855, with his wife and once child came West, and located in Long Creek Township, Decatur County, Iowa, buying 120 acres of land, on which he lived town years. He then sold a part of it, and moved to Franklin Township, and bought 240 acres on section 5, where he has since lived, to which he has added forty acres. When he came to Iowa he built a rude log house, after the primitive fashion, but he has improved his land, erected good buildings and now has one of the pleasantest homes in the township. To Mr. and Mrs. HOLLINGSHEAD have been born seven children – J. M., J. D., SANFORD P., THOMAS, EMELIA JANE, SARAH ISABELLE and ELIZA ELLEN . THOMAS is deceased. In politics Mr. HOLLINGSHEAD is a Democrat. He and his wife are members of the Christian church.
