(Lewis Publishing Company (1887)), p. 692:SYLVANUS CULVER, farmer and stock-raiser, section 10, Garden Grove Township, owns 360 acres of land. He is a son of SYLVESTER and MARY (JACOBUS) CULVER, natives of New York, and of English ancestry. His grandparents were followers of WILLIAM PENN. His father was twice married, and SYLVANUS was a child of the second wife. He was born in Tompkins County, New York, November 2, 1823. He was married in Allegany County, New York, to CHARITY PALMER, daughter of VARNUM and ANGLEINE PALMER, born in Steuben County, in 1840. They have three children – CHARLES L., CORNELIA E., and EDMONS S. Mr. CULVER first rented a nursery, which he carried the farm where he now resides. His buildings were erected by himself, and be-token the successful farmer. He raises considerable stock, and is one of the prominent farmers of the county he has been elected school supervisor several terms. He is a Republican, and a strong temperance man. Touch not, taste not, handle not, is his motto. His grandfather was a soldier in the war of 1812. His father was also a soldier.
