Biography ~ B.B. AKER

B. B. AKER, section 30, Grand River Township, postoffice, Kellerton, is one of the enterprising and successful men of his township. He has been identified with Decatur County many years, and is a well-known and widely-respected citizen. He is one of the prosperous agriculturists, and has made his property by his own industry and good management. He is a native of Indiana, born in Michigan City, October 15, 1848, a son of JACOB and CATHEIRN (BARNEY) AKER, natives of Pennsylvania. When he was six years of age his parents moved to Iowa and located in Carroll County, going thence a year later to Winneshiek County, and in 1856 to Decatur County, being among the pioneers of Decatur Township. Our subject’s early life was spent in assisting the farm, attending school when his services were not required at home, and in 1881 he was engaged in freighting in Dakota and Nebraska nearly one year, and returned and located on the farm where he now lives, which contains 150 acres of good land, well watered and having sufficient timber for shade and shelter of his stock, in the raising of which he has been very successful. He was married June 15, 1876, to Miss GENIRA HALL, daughter of JAMES and LUCINDA HALL, of Decatur County. They have had six children, five of whom are living - MINNIE C., ADA B., ROBERT BENTON, NETTIE LUELLA and ANNA PEARL. GEORGE WILLIAM is deceased. In politics Mr. AKER affiliates with the Republican party.
