Connie Spinks
Graceland University, Lamoni, IowaConnie SPINKS played football for Graceland College from 1975 through 1978. As a defensive end, he was a first team All-Conference and All-District ‘15' selection for three years (1976-78). He was also a first team All-American defensive selection his junior and senior years.
As a junior, SPINKS served as team captain and was named Most Valuable Defensive Player leading the team in sacks and tackles that year. As a competitor he has the reputation of being greatly respected by his teammates, as well as his opponents, due to his likeable personality. SPINKS received his B.A. in Social Work from Graceland in 1979.
SPINKS works for Cotton Wood Mental Health in Galesburg, Ill. He is has six children (Courtney, Carinea, Caprica, Conner, Cameron and Cole).
He is an active member of his community as a volunteer with the Galesburg Literacy Coalition as well as the Galesburg Leadership group.
Connie SPINKS was inducted into Graceland University's Hall of Fame in 1995.

OBITUARY ~ CORINA JAMES "CONNIE" "BITSY" SPINKS
Corina James "Connie" "Bitsy" SPINKS, 45, of 1281 Moshier Ave., Galesburg, IL died at 11:45 AM Sunday, July 7, 2002 in University Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa.
He was born October 27, 1956 in Galesburg IL to A.C. and Laura BLALOCK SPINKS.
He is survived by his mother, Laura SPINKS of Galesburg, IL, his fiancé, Deanna K. RALSTON of Galesburg, IL, four sons, Courtney D. SPINKS of Kansas City, KS, Warnell BUTTS of Des Moines, IA, Cameron BRACKEN and Cole SPINKS, both of Galesburg, IL, five daughters, Carrine E. SPINKS of Chicago, IL, Capricia and Conner SPINKS, both of Des Moines, IA, Nicole and Jessica RALSTON, both of Galesburg, IL, three brothers, Lester SPINKS, Curtis SPINKS, and Heston SPINKS, all of Galesburg, IL, eight sisters, Mattie Jean MIXON and Emma Gene SARGENT, both of Galesburg, IL, Esterline (and Grant) DUNCAN of Peoria, IL, LouAnnette (and Henry) MAYBERRY of Bloomington, IL, Cinthia Rita SPINKS of St. Paul, MN, Tuesday Renee SPINKS of Minneapolis, MN, Doreen CHERRY-SPINKS and Thersa Stephaine SPINKS, both of St. Louis, MO.
He is preceded in death by his father and three brothers.
He worked as a social worker for 21 years in mental health, most recently working for Fayette Company in Peoria IL. He was a 1975 graduate of Galesburg High School and a 1979 graduate of Graceland College with a Bachelor of Social Work.
He was in the first graduating class of Leadership Greater Galesburg. He coached area football, baseball and basketball Little Leagues. He coached several City leagues and mental health leagues. He was involved in athletics in college. He was co-captain his sophomore year of college football team, later became captain his junior and senior year. He was inducted in the Football Hall of Fame at the college.
He lived in the Galesburg area most his life and Des Moines IA and Kansas City KS for a brief time. He was a member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Galesburg IL.
Services are scheduled for 10:00 AM Saturday July 13, 2002 at the Central Congregational Church in Galesburg. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM Saturday at the church. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the family. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
