Ben. F. McDaniel

Of New Buda township, is one of the well-known and prominent citizens of his section of the county. He lives a mile and a half southwest of New Buda, in Section 23, where he has a farm of 140 acres. He was born in Gallia county, Ohio, January 15, 1845. His grandfather was a soldier in the Revolutionary war and served the full term, and three of his uncles fought in the war of 1812. Two of Ben’s brothers fought throughout the late war, and he was a lieutenant in the Ohio Militia, with a commission from Gov. Tod. B.F. lived in Gallia county until he was twenty years of age. In 1864 he married Miss Cynthia J. Patterson, and in March, 1865, he moved to Decatur Co., and stopped in Davis City six months. He farmed a short distance southeast of Davis City, one season, and in the spring of 1867 he moved to land adjoining where he now lives. They have had eleven children, eight now living, the oldest twenty-six and the youngest three years. Mr. McDaniel has never been an office-seeker, but has been assessor of New Buda township for five terms. He was a member of the People’s party until about three years ago, when he joined the People’s party, and been one of the most active members of the same; and is now chairman of the county committee. In religious matters, he was raised a Methodist, but is now affiliated with the United Brethren.
