Ottumwa – William J. “Bill” Meister, 68, of 437 S. Moore St., died at 3:15 p.m. April 5, 1991, at Bloomfield Care Center.
He was born Nov. 5, 1922, in Des Moines to Charles and Loretta Lenzy [sic] Meister. He married Grace Bowers; she preceded him in death. He married Juanita Fenton on April 23, 1966, in Des Moines.
He was a resident of Des Moines until 1978 when he moved to Ottumwa. He was employed by John Deere Works in Ankeny for 30 years, retiring in 1978.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Margaret Stout of Mitchellville; three stepdaughters, Dora Jane Pilcher and Betty Valentine of Blakesburg and Karol Knutson of Des Moines; four stepsons, Dean, George and Jim Fenton of Ottumwa and LaVern Fenton of Drakesville; four grandchildren; 37 stepgrandchildren; 34 stepgreat-grandchildren and six sisters, Clara Dawson, Frances Poortinga, Loretta Smith, Ruth Mote, Margaret McDonough of Des Moines and Mary Fisher of Elkhart.
He was preceded in death by a son, William Keith Meister, a stepson, Bill Fenton; a stepdaughter, Velma Fenton; two stepgrandchildren; a sister, Selma Poortinga and a brothers, Harry Meister.
The service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa, with Jerry Ruby of Bible Chapel of Ottumwa officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery in Ottumwa.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
