Vera Davis rites Wednesday

Long-time Milton resident Vera H. Davis died Monday afternoon at Nelson Nursing Home. She was 88.

Mrs. Davis was born June 9, 1898, in Davis County, the daughter of William H. and Jennie Amend Roby. She graduated from Milton High School, attended college in Mexico, Mo., and graduated from the University of Chicago.

Mrs. Davis taught school in Cantril and Milton high schools, was a lifetime member of the Milton Christian Church and 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, PEO and American Legion Auxiliary.

She married Earl J. Davis on June 20, 1920, at Milton. He died in 1961. Surviving are a son Dean of Naperville, Ill., a daughter Beverly Beeler of Milton, five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a sister LaVon Hargrove of Milton.

The service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Milton Christian Church with the Rev. Ed Pool officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery. Memorials may be left to the Milton Christian Church. Friends may call at their convenience at the Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.
