Edward Burchette

Edward Burchette, 78, owner of the former Exchange Bank, died Saturday, April 1, 1989, at the Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield.

He was born Nov. 26, 1910 in Bloomfield to Harry and Irene McGriff Burchett. He lived in Bloomfield for many years where he was involved in numerous community activities. He served as president of the Bloomfield School Board, was a member of the Davis County Hospital Board, the Citizens Mutual Telephone Co. board and the Bloomfield Area Chamber of Commerce.

Besides being president of the Exchange Bank and a farm owner, he founded Nockonwood Industries, a firm that made weather houses, baby furniture and other novelty items. He also was chairman of the board of Valley National Bank of Des Moines.

He married Josephine Steckel in December 1935. She died in 1951. He married Lucile Morrison in 1954.

Survivors include his son, Peter of Boulder City, Nev.; a daughter, Nan Camerson of Fairfield; five grandchildren; and four great-granddaughters.

The body has been cremated. A private family service will be held later in Bloomfield.

Memorials have been established to a Bloomfield community development fund in care of Nancy Logan at the Davis County Savings Bank or the Des Moines Art Center.
