Florence Owsley was born in Bloomfield, Iowa, June 15, 1907 and was called home July 9, 1946. She was the daughter of John R and Mattie [Martha] Owsley and was one of eight children. She is survived by her father John R Owsley of Denver, Colorado; three sisters, Mrs Ruth Davidson and Mrs Mary Cox also of Denver; Mrs Pauline Bish of Keokuk, Iowa, and one brother Lester Owsley of Crockett, California; also two nieces and one nephew of Denver. Other relatives and many friends. Waiting on the other side are her mother, one brother Russell and two sisters, Helen and Mildred Owsley. Florence became a member of the Bloomfield Christian Church when a young girl. After graduation from the Bloomfield High School she entered nurses training and graduated from the nursing school of Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa, Iowa, serving there for many years. She ranked high in her profession. Later while Superintendent of nurses in a Stockton, California Hospital she enlisted in the service of her country, but due to physical disability was not accepted. Returning to Iowa her illness became critical and she was hospitalized many months. From earliest childhood down through the years Florence was thoughtful of others and intensely devoted to her family and it was fitting that she chose nursing as her life work. Hers was a life of sacrifice and compassion. Her intense suffering is over the kind eyes that have looked upon the suffering of others are closed. The tired heart has ceased its beating and the healing hands are at rest. The soul of Florence Owsley has gone home. The services were conducted by the Curl Funeral Home by Rev Leo Simmons and interment was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery. ~ July 18, 1946 Bloomfield Democrat.
