R.M. BRYANT DIES

Aged Resident of Davis County Passes Away

Liven in this County 57 Years

A Civil War Veteran, Fought at Vicksburg, Goldsborough and Missionary Ridge

Robert M. Bryant died at his home in this city Sunday evening at a quarter past five o'clock, after a gradual decline in health for the past twelve months. For the past six weeks he had been confined to his bed by a severe attack of kidney trouble. The funeral services were held at the M.E. Church at Drakesville, Tuesday forenoon, conducted by Dr. C.L. Stafford, pastor of the local M.E. Church. A prayer service was held at the home in Bloomfield, Tuesday forenoon, before the funeral party started for Drakesville.

Robert Bryant was born at Danville, Indiana, May 29, 1841. He came to Davis County in 1848 with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Bryant, and remained a citizen of this county to the day of his death. WHen the War of the Rebellion was at its fiercest, Mr. Bryant gallantly responded to the call for volunteers and became a member of Company B, Thirtieth Iowa Infantry. He was engaged at the battles of Vicksburg, Lookout Mountain, Missionary Ridge and Goldsborough and many other fierce encounters, besides being with Sherman during his famous March to the Sea.

He was married to Miss Martha Medaris October 18, 1866. To this union were born nine children, seven of whom, with their mother still survive their beloved parent. Those living are, Mrs. George Adcock of Peoria, Illinois; Mrs. J.C. Bartlett of Centerville; and Mrs. Carl Shaw of Bloomfield, and Misses Hattie, Chat, Frances and Hope.

Mr. Bryant was for many years an earnest and faithful follower of his Saviour. He was honored by his brethren of the Drakesville M.E. congregation by being appointed a trustee of that church. To his family and relatives, many friends and brethren of his church we extend our sympathy in this time of sorrow for the loss of so good a husband, so excellent a father, so faithful a church worker and so exemplary a citizen as Uncle Robert Bryant.
