Joseph A. Rominger was born on a farm in Davis County, Iowa, November 2, 1871, and died in a hospital in Los Angeles, California, May 1, 1928. Interment was at Angeles Abbey in Compton, California. His parents were Uriah and Sarah E. Rominger. He attended public school, took liberal arts in Iowa Wesleyan University, Mount Pleasant, and was graduated from the Law Department of the State University of Iowa in 1898. He practiced law in Bloomfield, was editor of the Davis County Republican from 1902 to 1904, and was postmaster at Bloomfield from 1902 to 1906. He removed to Long Beach, California, in February, 1906, began the practice of law there, but devoted himself principally to real estate business. He was active in the city’s development, became president of Long Beach Realty Board, and president of the Chamber of Commerce. He was also president of the Iowa Society of Southern California. In 1914, he was elected assemblyman and served two years. This was followed by an election to the state Senate in 1916 and a re-election in 1920, giving him eight years in that body. Shortly before the termination of that service, he was a candidate for lieutenant governor, and came within a few hundred votes of election.
