Clell E. Huffman

Clell E. Huffman, 77, of Batavia, died Feb. 15, 2001, at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

The funeral was held at 11 a.m. today at the Batavia United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Thomas Raphael-Nakos and William Huffman officiating. Burial will be in the Batavia Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Walter B. Schafer Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 775 and the O. B. Nelson American Legion Post No. 3 of Ottumwa.

Open visitation was at noon Sunday at the Kremer Funeral Home in Batavia. Masonic services were conducted by the Kilwinning Masonic Lodge. Memorials may be directed to the Batavia Library or the Cardinal High School A-Club.

The son of Bert and Lydia Canny Huffman, Mr. Huffman was born June 22, 1923, in Davis County.

A 1940 graduate of Batavia High School, he lived most of his adult life in Batavia where he was employed by the United States Department of Agriculture for 36 years. He served for six years on the Cardinal Community School Board and was currently a member of the Batavia City Council. He was an Army-Air Force veteran of World War II, serving in the North African and Italian theaters, receiving seven battle stars, the Mediterranean and European Campaigne ribbons.

He was a member of the Batavia United Methodist Church, Kilwinning Masonic Lodge No. 198 A.F. and A.M. of Batavia and the Arbor Vitae Order of Eastern Star of Batavia, in which he was a past matron.

He is survived by five sons, William of Wadley, Ala.; Steve A. of Batavia, Robert H. of Agency, Charles of Williamsburg, Ky., and David W. of Osage Beach, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dalbert; and a sister, Fern Huffman.
