On Sunday, July 26th, a crowd estimated at between two and three thousand persons saw and heard Milo RENO deliver a homecoming address from the steps of the old log church called Mars Hill, situated 4 miles n.w. of Floris at the end of the road in the forest. The church stands on the north side of the Davis & Wapello county line which divides the cemetery. A few hundred yards to the north is a high bluff overlooking little Soap Creek Valley. The church was built about 1855 or not later than 1857. It has two windows on each side and the logs are still in good condition. One of the oldest tombstones reads that Rachel SMOCK was born June 19, 1773. Pictures were sold and donations taken to re-roof the historical structure and plans made to preserve the landmark of days gone by.
