Harold N. Anderson, 87, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 25, 2013 at Bright Kavanagh House. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at McLaren's Funeral Chapel, 801 - 19th Street in West Des Moines with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.

Harold was born on August 10, 1926 in Minneapolis, MN to Reuben and Nora Anderson. Harold was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Marines from 1944 to 1946. He coached Little League at Highland Park and was a member of the Y Indian Guides. He loved working with wood and playing golf. He retired from Northwestern Bell after 39 years of service.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He so enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great- grandchildren as they were the joy of his life. He was a man of high integrity and a wonderful role model for his family.

Harold is survived by his wife Joan and their children, Steve Anderson (Cindy) of Phoenix, AZ, Cindy Munson (Doug) of Encinitas, CA, Cathy Allen (Bud) of Winterset, IA, Doug Niblo of Waukee, IA, Marty Niblo (Jodi) of Tuscon, AZ and Jennifer Washington (Mark) of Nampa, ID; 18 grandchildren, Stephanie Veljkovic (Brian), Peter and Joseph Gilcrest, Chad Smith (Erinn), Wesley Smith (Amber), Robyn Jennett (Cole), Jamie Brobst (Shawn), Erin Williams, Jeff Niblo (Ana), Cade Niblo, Brian Niblo, Jaime Niblo, Mollie Niblo, Tyler Farrell (Sarah), Grant Farrell, Nathan Wederquist (Annette Moyer), Justin Wederquist, Whitney Wederquist (Chris Peyton); 18 great-grandchildren and sister Judy Raymond (John). He was preceded in death by his brothers Clarence (Pat) and Bob (Jo); parents Reuben and Nora Anderson and his daughter-in-law Kathy Niblo.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, October 28, 2013 at McLaren's Chapel. Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of Central Iowa.
