Lillian Sable age 94, of Perry died on Monday, January 10, 2011 at Rowley Memorial Masonic Home in Perry. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 15, 2011, at 10 a.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Perry. Visitation will be Friday, January 14, 2011 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Irene Barbara Lunde Chapel at the Rowley Memorial Masonic Home and then from 3 to 8 p.m. with family present to greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at Carris Family Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry. Memorial contributions will be given to the Rowley Memorial Masonic Home and may be left at the funeral home.
Lillian Margarethe Sable was born on April 8, 1916 in Scranton, Iowa to Anton and Jane (Lund) Mickelson. Lillian grew up and attended school in the Perry area. She was baptized and confirmed in the Trinity Lutheran Church. Lillian married Walter Sable on June 22, 1939, and together they farmed side by side West of Perry for 30 years. She loved her role as a housewife, mother and grandmother to their eight children and thirteen grandchildren. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening and cooking. Her fried chicken, homemade bread and macaroni and cheese, was the meal that brought her family together for Sunday dinner.
Lillian was preceded in death by her son, Rick in 2010, husband, Walter in 1984, parents, Anton and Jane Mickelson, five brothers, Paul Christian Mickelson, Einar Mickelson, Fred Mickelson, Martin Mickelson and Ivan Mickelson, five sisters, Marie Sable, Elma Mickelson, Esther Ebrecht, Mary Mickelson, and Elizabeth Garrett.
Survivors include her four daughters, Karen Benhart and husband Ken of West Des Moines, Iowa, Shirley Lester and husband Dave of Polk City, Iowa, Linda Wuebker and husband John of Perry, Iowa and Ruth Myers and husband Randy of Bouton, Iowa; three sons, William Sable and wife Judy of Fremont, California, Frank Sable and wife Jean of Urbandale, Iowa and John Sable and wife Claudia of Wagoner, Oklahoma; a brother, Paul Mickelson and wife Eleanor of Minburn, Iowa; a sister, Dulcie Taylor of Woodward, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Annie Mickelson of Perry, Iowa, thirteen grandchildren, Jim Sable, Maggie Sable, Eric Sable, Christine Sable, Janelle Michael, Scott Sable, Jennifer Edelheit, Michelle Rodemyer, Mike Littlejohn, Travis Wuebker, Josh Wuebker, Mandy Myers and Kelsey Myers, four great grandchildren, Kaylee Wuebker, Elijah Myers, Caroline Edelheit, and Josh Edelheit and many nieces and nephews.
