John Light, 88, died Saturday, February 25, 2012, at Mercy West Lakes Hospital in West Des Moines. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 3, at the Dunkard Brethren Church in Dallas Center, with burial to follow at Brethren Cemetery.
John was born in Clarence, Iowa on August 15, 1923. He moved to Minburn as a young man with his family and farmed there the rest of his life. John was a 4-H Leader and a member of the Dallas County Sherriff's Posse. He was an avid collector of toy tractors and always made time to drink coffee and visit with friends.
John is survived by his children, Bernetta Hawbaker, Marlene (Roy) Wicks, and Susie Light; 14 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Cecile, and his children, Ruth, Johnny and Dale.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m, Friday, March 2, at Iles Funeral Homes-Brandt Chapel in Dallas Center. Memorial contributions may be made to Dunkard Brethren Church. Online condolences may be made at IlesCares.com.
