Betty J. Huscher passed away September 2, 2012, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. She was born June 27, 1928, in Emmetsburg, Iowa to Ray V. Wright and Louise Wright. She was married to Paul E. Huscher on August 23, 1950. Betty is survived by her husband; two children, Lyn (Joe) Land and Paul R. "Rick" Huscher; six grandchildren, Andrea Louton, Kyle Thoreson, Casey Thoreson, Jace Thoreson, Jenifer Turso, and Tyler Thoreson; eight great-grandchildren; and two brothers, William Wright and Robert Wright. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Bruce Wright.
Betty taught elementary school in Cedar Falls, Esterville, West Branch and Johnston. She has served her church and community as a member of the Waukee United Methodist Church building committee, as a member of the United Methodist Women, and as a board member of HomeCare, Inc of Dallas County under which she organized and maintained a group of volunteers to deliver Meals On Wheels for many years in Waukee.
Betty was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She liked mystery novels, gardening, and conversation over coffee with her friends. Betty will be remembered for her homemade cinnamon rolls, her quick sense of humor, and her devotion to family. Grandchildren will always remember summers spent at Grandma's house.
The family will receive friends at the Waukee United Methodist Church on Wednesday, September 5, from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 6, 2012, at Waukee United Methodist Church, with burial to follow at the Waukee Cemetery.
