Hayes Reed, 88, died Saturday, June 24, 2006 at Hospice Kavanagh House in West Des Moines. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 28 at Dunkard Brethren Church in Dallas Center with burial to follow at Brethren Cemetery.

Hayes was born and raised in Floyd County, Virginia. In 1947 he met Mary Byfield and they were married in 1948 in Modesto, California where they made their home for 58 years. Hayes was a Real Estate Broker in Modesto but his passion was serving as an Elder for the Pleasant Home congregation of the Dunkard Brethren Church for over 50 years. He served as chairman of the board of directors for the Torreon Navajo Mission in New Mexico as well many other boards within the Dunkard Brethren Church. During his 63 years of ministry he held over 50 revivals throughout the United States. Hayes enjoyed singing and listening to music, especially Gospel quartets.

Hayes is survived by his loving wife, Mary, his children Gloria (Gale) Haldeman of Dallas Center and Gary (Michelle) Reed of Clovis, CA, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Visitation begins after 1 p.m. Tuesday and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Iles Funeral Homes-Brandt Chapel in Dallas Center. Memorial contributions can be made to Dunkard Brethren Church or Hospice of Central Iowa Kavanagh House in West Des Moines

Hayes was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, and will be greatly missed by all.
