Page 4, Column 2Miles C. Marshall was born in Wayne county, Indiana, September 18, 1830, and died September 15, 1898, lacking three days of being sixty-eight years old. Mr. Marshall came to Dallas county in 1854 and has lived here ever since with the exception of three years which he spent in Kansas. He served nearly three years in the 39th Iowa Volunteer during the civil war. He was married to Miss Martha Hill Feb. 20, 1857, who still survives him. The funeral service was held at the home of his brother, C. Marshall, conducted by Rev. R. J. Davidson, D.D., and the interment was made in the Dexter cemetery.
Mr. Marshall was always familiarly known as “Bob”. During the past winter and part of the summer he was confined to his bed with sickness and in all his suffering manifested a patient disposition, always greatly appreciating the assistance of those who cared for him and receiving favors with manifest gratitude. A few weeks ago he was taken to the home of his brother at the Springs, with the hope that the change would be of benefit, but without avail.
Another ‘”old soldier” has joined the “bivouac of the dead,” another grave has been made to cover with flowers on Memorial day.—Dexter Sentinel.
