LAST RITES HONOR MRS. DUFF’S MOTHER

Mrs. Katherina Bast Was Born 92 Years Ago at Schwratzerden, Germany

Katherina Saam was born March 5th, 1838 at Schwratzerden, Preussen, Germany. She came to Holmes County, Ohio, in 1858. Was married to William Bast August 12th, 1858. In 1874 they moved to a farm 2 ½ miles south of Dexter moving again in 1883 to a farm two miles south of Earlham.

In 1903 they moved to Dexter where the home had been ever since. Mr. Bast passed away in 1912 and of the nine children, three sons also preceded their mother in death. There remain to mourn her passing one son, Wm. Bast, of Los Angeles, Calif., five daughters, Mrs. Emma McGowan, of Des Moines; Mrs. Mary Hager, of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Minnie McCormick, of Venice, Calif., Mrs. Kate Stevens, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mrs. Tilla Duff, of Earlham, and 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Bast was a devout member of the Lutheran Church in Dexter, and while she was able never missed attending church. She had many friends and will be sincerely missed. She is not dead she is just beyond.

Funeral services for the deceased were held Saturday from the Lutheran Church at Dexter, with the Rev. Kurt Diab officiating. Burial was in Dexter Cemetery.
