James Duncan Young, son of James and Marion Young, was born on a farm near Monmouth, Ill., and passed away at his home in Dexter, Apr. 30, 1953 at the age of 80 years, 10 months and eight days.

He was united in marriage to Bessie Kennedy, Mar. 7, 1898 at Galesburg, Ill. and to this union five children were born: Florence of Freeport, Ill., who died in 1950; Edna of Kellogg; Alma of West Des Moines; Clarence of South Beloit, Ill. and Claire who died in infancy.

Soon after their marriage, he moved with his family to Iowa and established his family on a farm south of Dexter. In 1933, because of illness in the family, he gave up farming and provided a home in Dexter for his family and found employment in town.

With his wife and children he united with the First Presbyterian church of Dexter, Jan. 3, 1915 and was a member of that church at the time of his death.

He loved his family dearly and in recent years, the visits of his grandchildren gave him much joy.

He is survived by his wife Bessie; two daughters, Edna Boot of Kellogg and Alma Johnston of West Des Moines; a son, Clarence Young of South Beloit, Ill., and five grandchildren, James Van Vleck of Freeport, Ill., Jeanette and Cecil Johnston, Jr. of West Des Moines, Dean Boot of Kellogg and Franklin Young of South Beloit, Ill. There are also three brothers surviving: Gordon of Beardsley, Minn., Robert of Dexter and William of Billings, Mont. Four sisters and one brother preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Monday at the Evans Funeral home under the direction of Rev. C. R. Eble. Music was presented by the Presbyterian church and flowers were in charge of Mrs. Carl Johnson, Harriett Johnson and Arta Lenocker. Casketbearers were: O. E. Bast, Carl Johnson, Raymond Grant, Wayne Glazebrook, Clyde McMullin and James Leighty.

Interment was in the Dexter cemetery.
