James Henry Rhoten was born Dec. 22, 1892 at Sardinia, Ohio, and died Dec. 27, 1962 at the Dexter hospital, Dexter, Iowa at the age of 70 years and five days. He had been in failing health for a number of years.

As a young man, Mr. Rhoten joined the navy, and served for three years and nine months in 1910 to 1913. After this he served in the regular army, during which time he was in overseas service during World War I. He also served in World War II for 27 months, including ten months overseas.

Jim was a member of the various veterans’ organizations, the Presbyterian church and the Masonic lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Nellie; one son by a former marriage, Thurman, of Chicago; two sisters, Anna (Mrs. Jack) Button of Adel, and Mrs. Hala Norris of Georgetown, Ohio; four step-children, Pauline Horner of Takoma, Wash., Carlton Williams of Los Angeles, Calif., Loma Huhn of Adel, and Robert Williams of Des Moines; three grandchildren, and nine step-grandchildren. His only brother, Ora Rhoten, died last spring.

Services were held Sunday, Dec. 30 at the Dexter Presbyterian church. Rev. Albert Bullock and Rev. John Latta were in charge of the services. The Mt. Tabor Lodge also assisted. Music was by Nadine Shepherd, organist. The church floral committee was in charge of the flowers. Casketbearers were John Baldwin, W. N. Curry, Robert Marsh, Wayne Glazebrook, Carroll Beane and James McMenamin.

Interment was in the Dexter cemetery.
