The final summons came to Mrs. A. M. Davis Tuesday evening, February 20, when the Silver Cord was broken in twain at 7:15. She had been sick for five weeks.

Mrs. Davis and her husband have been residents of Stuart for ten years and during that time have made many friends and acquaintances. She was an earnest worker in the Congregational church being affiliated with its different societies. She was a member of the W.C.T.U. and did all she could to make it a strong organization. The day before she was taken sick this organization met at her home and had one of its most successful and interesting meetings. She was a kind and good neighbor, thoughtful of her friends and those in sorrow and need. She possessed a very strong vitality and during her younger years worked very hard to have enough of this worlds goods to live comfortable in her declining years. This ambitious spirit still clung to her and many times over-taxed her strength. She had a sunshiny disposition and always greeted her friends with a smile and a kindly word.

Sarah Jane Foster was born near Jefferson, Ohio, February 24, 1837, being the eleventh child of Mr. and Mrs. Joshua Foster, who had a family of thirteen children. From Ohio the family moved to Knox county, Illinois, where the deceased was married to A. M. Davis April 14, 1881. From Illinois Mr. and Mrs. Davis came to Iowa and settled upon a farm southeast of Stuart in Adair county, where they resided until ten years ago when they took up their residence in Stuart.

In childhood Mrs. Davis untied with the Methodist church. When she moved to Adair county, Iowa, she transferred her membership to the Presbyterian church at Dexter and lastly united with the Congregational church at Stuart.

The children and relatives who were here during her sickness and at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Shriver, Rockwell City; E. F. Davis, Redfield; H. A. Davis, Spearville, Kansas; E. C. Davis, Ft. Dodge; E. S. Davis, Clifton, Colorado; Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Davis and Mrs. F. G. Davis, St. Joseph, Mo., Walter Anderson, Emporia, Kansas, Mrs. O. A. Price, Dexter.

The funeral was held Thursday, February 22, at one o’clock from her late home, conducted by her pastor, Rev. Briggs. Interment took place in the Dexter cemetery.
