Last Sunday morning at a little past eleven o’clock, one of Dexter’s aged and respected citizen’s, Maben J. Marshall, passed from this earthly career. The funeral services were held at the residence, Tuesday, at eleven o’clock, conducted by Rev. C. L. Baxter, pastor of the M. E. church, and the body was laid to rest in the Dexter cemetery.

Mr. Marshall was born in Wayne county, Indiana, September 21, 1817 and died January 2, 1898, being 80 years, 3 months, and 11 days old. He lived in Indiana with his parents until manhood and was married to Charita Moore in 1838 who died in 1849. To them were born four children, Laura, Melinda, Luna and Alice, all of whom are living except the firs who died in 18-8.

He was again married to Priscilla Coffman in 1852, who with the three children, three brothers and two sisters are left to mourn the loss of a kind husband, father and brother. He moved from Indiana in 1853 to Michigan where he remained a year and a half when he moved to Dallas county, Iowa, locating on his farm on which the west part of Dexter is located. Thus we see that Mr. Marshall has lived here for over forty years, being here before the town of Dexter was begun. He lived to a good old age and always led a quiet, unassuming life and was familiarly known as “Uncle Mabe.”—Dexter Sentinel.
