Irene Marie Wahlert was the daughter of Jacob Schirm and Dorothea, nee Franz, and was born in Guthrie County, Iowa on December 15, 1905. She was baptized in St. John Lutheran Church northwest of Adair on February 11, 1906. She was confirmed in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adair on March 28, 1920. She received her education in schools of Guthrie County and graduated from high school in Adair.

On September 5, 1925 she was united in marriage to Randel Wahlert. Six children were born to this union. A few years after their marriage, the family moved to the Dexter Community. Mr. Wahlert passed away on February 18, 1954. Mrs. Wahlert was employed for many years at the Dexter Clinic Hospital. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter and of the Zion Senior Fellowship.

Mrs. Wahlert passed away in California on Tuesday, August 24 at the age of 65 years, 8 months and 9 days. She is survived by three sons, Ronald of Dexter, Edward of Redfield, Russell of Hemet, California, three daughters, Dona, Mrs. Hobert E. Franks of Indianapolis, Ind., Dorothy, Mrs. Robert Merical of Waukee, and Diana, Mrs. Dennis Countryman of Anaheim, Calif., seventeen grandchildren; one great-grandchild and two brothers, Arnold Schirm of Dexter and Carl Schirm of Stuart.

Funeral services, under the direction of the Evans Funeral Home, were held at Zion Lutheran Church, Dexter, with the Rev. Norman M. Luecht, officiating. Pallbearers were Tim Frank, Bradley Wahlert, Philip Wahlert, Randel Wahlert, John Perkins, Steve Thompson, Mark Merical, and Roger Wahlert, grandsons of the departed.
