Mariane Dorothea Ipsen was born in Pellworm, Slavic Holstein, Germany, Nov. 10, 1849, and passed away at her late home in Dexter, Iowa, on March 4, 1938, aged 88 years, 3 mos., and 22 days. In 1879 she came to the USA and settle in Dexter, Iowa, where for nearly 60 years she was held in the very highest esteem by all who knew her. May 8, 1884, she was united in marriage with Edward Vogel. To this union were born two children: William E., of Grand Island, Nebraska; one son preceded her to the Great Beyond in infancy.

March 16, 1935, she was bereft of her husband with whom she journeyed life’s highway for nearly fifty years. In the years that have come and gone the neighbors and friends lovingly called this good woman by the familiar name of Little Mary Vogel. She loved her home and her Bible which she read constantly; she did more than this, she loved her Lord and Master. Many times she read her German Bible and found great comfort therein. No one could have been better to her loved ones. She was kind and considerate with her friends and neighbors and was mindful of those who were sick and in distress. Last Friday she undoubtedly heard her Saviour say “Inasmuch as you have done it unto one of the least of these my children you have don it unto me; enter into the joys of your Lord.”

When a mere child she was confirmed in the Lutheran church in Germany; in this faith she lived and died. She appreciated her friends and dear ones, who bestowed many kind favors upon her. The neighbors and friends will miss Mary who used to drop in and have friendly chats with her, knowing they were always welcome.

Those who mourn the passing of this fine character are Mr. and Mrs. Wm. E. Vogel, of Grand Island, Neb.; their daughter, Gretchen Elizabeth Mehring, of Salida, Colo., and a host of friends and neighbors who rise up and call her blessed.

Funeral services last Monday at 2 p.m. from the M. E. church in Dexter, Iowa, conducted by Rev. J. H. Freedline. Interment by the side of her beloved husband in Dexter cemetery.
