A visitation was held Wednesday, March 8 at the Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church. Private scattering of the cremains was held at a later date at the Dexter Cemetery.

Ramona was born Jan. 29, 1924, the daughter of Howard and Hesper Aronson Mapes. She was raised on a farm and attended country school in Jefferson and Lincoln townships in Adair County, through eighth grade. She graduated from Dexter High School in 1941 and spent the next few summers on her Aunt Anna’s fruit ranch in Colorado, packing cherries. In the fall of 1946, she went to California with the Cal Davidson family as an extra driver. Intending to stay for two weeks, she remained for 42 ½ years.

She married Wilfred Lank on Jan. 29, 1948. Wilfred died in January 1983 and in 1989 she sold their home in Rosemead, Calif. and moved back to Iowa, where she built a new home in Stuart.

While in California, she was active in the Missionary Guild at her church, San Gabriel Union. She made countless quilts for the missionaries and donated many hours of her time. While in Stuart she made many lap robes and bibs for the Care Center in Stuart.

As a young girl, she became a member of the Mt. Vernon Methodist Church and was an active member of the Stuart Mt. Vernon Methodist Church. She was a volunteer at the congregate meal site and served as president of the Tri Center Association Board for several years. She loved flowers and gardening, traveling and enjoyed many interesting trips.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Mapes.
