Joy Hammond, son of James E. and Wilhelmina Meisker Hammond, was born in Dexter on June 9, 1898. He was a life-long resident of Dexter, and died quietly at his home Monday evening, Oct. 9, at the age of 63 years and four months.

Mr. Hammond was married on June 10, 1925 to Josephine Lenocker.

Mr. Hammond had been employed for twenty-one years by the Internal Revenue Service, and at the time of his death was supervisor of the Internal Revenue collection service in the Des Moines area. He had done his regular day’s work on the day of his death.

He was a member of the Methodist church, although he gave his active support also to the Presbyterian church, where he was a regular worshiper. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Dexter Community Club.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine; one brother, Roy, of Winterset; and two sisters, Mildred (Mrs. Dennis) McEvoy of Stuart, and Lela (Mrs. Charles) Ragains, of Kearney, Nebr.

Services were held at the Dexter Presbyterian church Thursday, Oct. 12. Rev. Albert Bullock and Rev. John Latta were in charge of the services. Mrs. K. W. Chapler was organist. In charge of flowers were Phyllis Piatt, Helen Neal and Agnes Martin. Casketbearers were Allan Atherton, Warren Piatt, Marlin Piatt, Oral Martin, Robert Weesner and James Freedline. Interment was in the Dexter Cemetery.
