Leah Della Gowdey, daughter of John B. and Leah Stacks Gowdey, was born on October 22, 1884, on a farm N.W. of Dexter and died at Adel Acres Sunday, November 5, 1972.

She had taught school during 25 years of her life, and then took care of her parents here in Dexter, who were later laid to rest in the Dexter cemetery. Later she moved to Oregon with a brother and cared for him till his death at Grand Junction, Colo. Then, five years ago, she moved to a sister’s home in Los Angeles, where she resided until returning to Redfield last June.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and one sister. Surviving are two sisters, Mary Blumhart, formerly of Los Angeles, Calif., and Laney Barton of Redfield. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
