Earl Jacob Fillman, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Fillman, was born on a farm near Mazon, Ill. on May 13, 1896 and died on Oct. 20, 1958 at the age of 62 years, 5 months, and 7 days.

He moved with his parents to the farm two miles east of Dexter on March 1, 1900, where he lived until the time of his death. In his boyhood he was baptized and became a member of the church. He attended the public schools, and upon reaching maturity entered into farming with his brother Emil.

On July 7, 1918, he entered the Air Service and was assigned to the Second Wing Concentration Brigade, 7th Company, at Kelley Field, Texas. He received an honorable discharge on Feb. 7, 1919.

Earl and Emil continued with their partnership until Earl’s death. It was he, his brother Emil, and his sister Alma, who gave such loving care to their parents during their declining years.

Earl was a very successful farmer. He was always deeply interested in his family and friends. He always tried to make life more pleasant for those around him. Even when he became ill in April of this year, his chief concern was for those near him. He will always live in the memory of those for whom he did many untold acts of kindness.

He is survived by three brothers, Will of Cardiner, Ill., Emil of Dexter and Fred of Paton; three sisters, Irene and Alma of Dexter and Louise of Midland, Texas. He also leaves three nephews, John of Gardiner, Ill., Eldon of Topeka, Kan., and Fred of Paton; four nieces, Mrs. Donald Sutton of Grand Junction, Mrs. Dick Fredrickson of Paton, Mrs. Clark Carlson of Farnhamville, and Margaret Huglin of Dexter. There are also nine great nephews and 10 great nieces.

Services were conducted the Rev. Robert Holloway at the First Presbyterian Church at Dexter Thursday, Oct. 23, and interment followed at the Dexter cemetery.

The organist was Mrs. John Shepherd and the soloist Eugene Nelson. Pall bearers were Lawrence Cox, Harvey Beaman, Robert Osborn, Jr., Edgar Brown, Clyde McMullin, and Carroll Bond. Lillian Pohle, Marian Beaman, and Goldie Brown were in charge of flowers.
