Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Marquardt and his mother, Mrs. Leona Marquardt south of DeSoto, were among the relatives and friends who attended the double funeral for Mr. Buchanan and Mr. Stegal held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Dexter Lutheran church. Mr. Buchanan and Mr. Stegal, Dexter men, and Robert Godby of Earlham were killed in a tragic accident Wednesday afternoon when the automobile in which they were riding was hit by an eastbound train. The Dexter men were building a barn for Mr. Godby near Earlham. After they had dinner at Mr. Godby’s home he got in the car with them to go and inspect the work. There was a private railroad crossing on the Godby farm and they had to cross that to get to where the barn was being built. All three men were killed. Mr. Godby’s funeral was held in Earlham Friday afternoon. The wives of Mr. Buchanan and Mr. Stegal, whose maiden names were Clausen, were nieces of Mrs. Leona Marquardt and Eugene’s cousins. Mr. Godby’s wife, who is the former Isabella Foster, used to teach in the DeSoto Consolidated School.
