Darrell L. Hurst, 55, of Des Moines died of cancer Monday, Oct. 30, 2006 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

A memorial service was held Thursday, Nov. 2 at First Presbyterian Church in Dexter. Private interment of the cremains was held at the Dexter Cemetery.

Darrell Hurst was born Sept. 8, 1951, in Dexter, the son of Donald and Wanda Holmes Hurst. He graduated from Stuart High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in agriculture business from Iowa State University. Darrell worked for 10 years for the Massey Ferguson Company in Des Moines and Fort Lauderdale, Fla. as a purchasing agent. Darrell also worked at Baxter Medical of Florida and Smart Industries of Des Moines, where he was a production manager. He was currently working as a production manager for EVO Medical Solutions near Waukee.

Darrell enjoyed NASCAR racing. He loved the outdoors and working on his yard. He really enjoyed firing up his grill, cooking ribs and such for family and friends. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.

Darrell is survived by his son, Benjamin Hurst of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; his daughter, Sarah Palmer of Des Moines; his father, Donald Hurst of Dexter; two brothers, David Hurst of Polk City and Roger Hurst of Laurens and two grandchildren.
