Thursday, June 21, 2008Funeral services were held on Sunday, June 17th at 3 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Dexter, Iowa with Pastor Kirk Seagren officiating.
Organist was Robert Lawson who played an organ solo, “In The Garden.” Congregational hymn was “How Great Thou Art”. Soloist was Jill Eichner-Brown singing “The Lord’s Prayer”, and a duet by Luke and Jill Brown sang “Precious Memories.”
Pallbearers were Michael Adkins, Chris Adkins, Antoinette Vanderheiden, Ben Adkins, Alex Adkins, Eric Adkins, Jason Adkins. Honorary pallbearers were Wayne Fastle, David Fife, Ray Lenocker, Arvid Love, Gaylord Thompson, Ed Love, Great Grandchildren: Katlynn Adkins, Kalysta Adkins, Grant Vanderheiden, Amber Adkins.
Antoinette Adkins was born the daughter of William and Minnie Felt Frankin near Lewis, Iowa on November 4, 1906, and died at the Community Care Center in Stuart on June 13, 2007 at the age of 100 years, 7 months and 9 days.
“Nette” as she became known, attended country school in the Lewis and Kent communities. She received her high school diploma from West Central Valley High School of Stuart during her 100th birthday celebration in Dexter, Iowa on November 4, 2006.
On January 2, 1927 Nette and James C. Adkins were married in Dexter, Iowa. This union was blessed with two sons, James and Richard. Nette and James bought the United Food Market in Dexter in 1935 and owned and operated it as Adkins Grocery Store for over 50 years. Nette was a member of the Dexter Methodist Church, past president of the UMW, Sunday school teacher, member of the Golden Agers Club, the Dexter DT Club, 50 ear member of the BQ of the P.E.O., past president and 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Nette is survived by her son Richard and wife Linda of Dexter, daughter-in-law Margaret Adkins of Dexter; brother Wesley Franklin and wife Phyllis of Des Moines; 4 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
Nette was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James C. Adkins, son James F. Adkins, grandson Kurt James Adkins, sisters Beulah Cline and Mary Albright.
Interment was held at the Dexter Cemetery in Dexter, Iowa. Kuhn Funeral Homes was in charge of arrangements.
