Dexter Library Obituary Collection
Dexter, IowaThe long and useful life of Jacob Hiram Lenocker came to its close Monday morning, Feb. 10, 1958 at his beautiful home in south Dexter. A life noted for integrity, industry, sobriety, and successful business insight will be missed in this community.
“Jake”, as he was familiarly called, was the son of Godfrey F. Lenocker and Suvilla Drushel Lenocker, born in Madison county, five miles south of Dexter, Feb. 22, 1873. He had attained the age of 85 years, 11 months and 10 days. He was the last of the pioneer Lenockers. Father, mother, ten brothers and sisters had preceded him in death.
Growing up on the farm homeland, attending Dexter Normal school, he learned to love the soil and to realize fully how important agriculture and the raising of livestock are in our advancing civilization.
On Dec. 28, 1898 he was married to Miss Daisy Anna Moore at her parental W. T. Moore home in Dexter. The local paper of that day states that a “More congenial couple or happier pair could not have been found in all the country, truly devoted to each other.”
To this union was born Frantz Moore Lenocker, March 14, 1903, the only child, who with his wife, Florence Geraldine Wells Lenocker, survive their father. It was this father’s dream that his son should see the great values life give to one who loves and makes use of the wide open spaces of Iowa land.
During the past thirteen years Mr. Lenocker’s home has been kept up for him by Mr. and Mrs. Orville Bast, who have lived with him. Their kindness to him and their ability to make this home a place of peace and quiet to him in his declining years is due much appreciation from his son and family. Prior to this Mrs. Jessie Popham Lenocker, who he married in 1915, made a home for him until her death in 1934.
Mr. Lenocker was a faithful member of the Penn Center and Dexter Methodist churches. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge of Dexter.
Four grand children will hold in memory this grandfather: Norma Lee Wahlert, Daisy Joann Clements, Ted Russell Lenocker, & Linda Lavon Lenocker.
Eight great grandchildren: Dennis Bruce, Diana Lynn, and Darcy Joan Clements; Fran Marie, Bradley Dean, and Ronda Lee Wahlert; Judy Rae and Renee Marie Lenocker all feel today that some one loved has left a vacant place in each little heart. The mystery of death? A child to voice it and a God to understand.
