Lawrence Edward Seemann, 87, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2009, at The Village at Legacy Pointe in Waukee. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 15, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Madrid. Burial will follow at Liberty Cemetery, north of Woodward.

Lawrence was born September 8, 1921, to Jerry P. and Margaret (Nath) Seemann. He was a lifelong resident in the Woodward area, farming most of his life. He was united in marriage on February 3, 1949, to Carol Fincham.

He was a veteran of World War II, a medic in the Army, and a member of the American Legion. He was instrumental in bringing Xenia Rural Water to Dallas and Boone Counties, serving as the Board's Secretary/Treasurer for many years. He was also an active member of the Boone County Cattleman's Association. In later years, he enjoyed raising purebred Simmental cattle. Lawrence was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Madrid. He was also an avid Iowa Hawkeye Fan. He loved being surrounded by family and spending an afternoon or evening playing cards.

Lawrence is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Carol; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Anna Mae Seemann, of Woodward; daughter, Cheri (Mark) Finestead, of Granger; two sons, Lynn Seemann, of Ankeny and Lon (Denise) Seemann, of Woodward; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death and welcoming him home, are his parents; a sister, Pauline; a brother, Richard; one son, Larry; and a beloved granddaughter, Meredith Anne.

The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m., on Wednesday, January 14, at Iles Funeral Homes-Brandt Chapel in Woodward. ~ The Des Moines (IA) Register Tues 13 Jan 2009.
